TOLIARA (Tulear)
Toliara lies just inside the Tropic
of Capricorn in south west Madagascar on the shores
of the Mozambique Channel. Visitors to this small, friendly
town are greeted by a delightful market selling seafood
fished by the renowned Vezos - the region’s skilful
sailors. Located 26 km from Toliara is the trolling
fishing village of Ifaty. It is also the starting point
of the Toliara coral reef, one of the most beautiful
in the world, measuring 300 km. St Augustin’ s
Bay and the village of Vezo de Anakao to the south of
Toliara are a must on any visit to the region.
