The historic town of Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, is located 12 km from Ivato airport. The town is built at altitudes of between 1300 and 1400 metres on a series of hills in the high plateaux region. The colonial
architecture of Antananrivo, which literally means the «City of a thousand warriors», holds many mysteries. It’s the administrative, political and economic centre of the country. The town centre is composed of Antaninarenina and the Analakely district, with its famous Avenue de l’Independence and arcades bursting with life.
The Anosy district, at the foot of the Hilton Hotel with its beautiful jacaranda trees, stretches along the shores of the lake of the same name. Crowned by 12 sacred hills, the capital, with its beautiful colonial architecture,
harbours a real desire to embrace urban modernisation. It is also the administrative, political and economic centre of the country.
