SAINTE-MARIE

Was one of the busiest trading ports in the Indian Ocean at the time of the French East India Company during the 18th century. After serving for centuries as a haven for pirates, the island was an “open air” prison for fifty years during the 20th century.
Surrounded by magnificent beaches and lush tropical vegetation, Nosy Boraha, the island of women, is a magical destination for tourists. The spellbinding perfume of vanilla and cocoa beans makes for the perfect stay. From July to October, you can admire the humpback whales that frolic and play in the channel that separates the two coasts.
The capital goes by the delightful name of Ambodifototra.
